Thursday Tales: Eden Baylee and a Giveaway

Hi! Thanks so much for coming today. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Thanks Carrie Ann for having me on your great site!

I’ve been writing full time since January of 2010. Prior to that, I worked as a banker for twenty years. I read my first book of erotica, Story of O, when I was eleven and have been twisted ever since.

Tell us a bit about your book.

Spring into Summer is a collection of four emotionally-charged erotic novellas. Two take place in the spring and two in the summer.
My love of poetry inspired this book, and the first story called “A Season For Everything” is heavily influenced by my affection for poets.
In “Unlocking the Mystery,” I pay respect to the serendipity of life. Though my writing is steeped in reality, this story acknowledges we can’t always explain the magical quality of love.
“Summer Solstice” kicks off the hot season. Everything about this story is hot—the men, the women, the toys. It’s a party with pagans, and they know how to have fun.
The final novella is “The Lottery,” a story that touches on many themes, but at its core, is about the choices we have, the sacrifices we make and the relationships we keep.

Is this part of a series?

It’s not, but it’s the companion piece to my first book called Fall into Winter, which had the same formula of four stories, except they took place in the fall and winter.  Just call me the Vivaldi of erotica (heh).

What was your favorite part?

The characters are the favorite part of all my stories. They are real, believable, and strong people. I enjoy bringing them to life on the page.

Why did you choose to write erotic romance?

I love the genre of “sexy.” When I write, I live the characters to some degree, and it makes me feel alive. It’s wonderful to feel in a heightened state of arousal when reading and writing.

Do you ever have any conversations in your head with your characters? If so, can you give us a 

hint of what you might talk about?

I do, and they usually revolve around character motivation and sex.

I act out their scenes when I take a shower. That’s where I feel complete privacy to “talk it out.” It makes for very long showers.

Rate your story in terms of steaminess 

My first two stories are highly romantic and emotional. Several people have told me they couldn’t stop crying. I was thinking to rename my genre to ‘emotica’ instead of ‘erotica’ (heh). The third story is very hot, very sexy and will sear your skin if you hold on to the pages for too long. The final story of Spring into Summer is beautifully sensual and also extremely arousing.

In short, the steaminess ranges from sweet to full-on sweat.

What are you reading right now?

I’m rereading my favorite book of erotica, Story of O, right now. It’s for research and inspiration and my ‘go-to’ book for excellent BDSM.

I know this is like asking who is your favorite child, who is your favorite romance author (s)?

A cross between Pauline Réage, Anaïs Nin, and Henry Miller.

What is your favorite romance book or series?

I don’t have a favorite romance book or series. I’m more of a reader of authors. If I like their work, then I tend to buy everything they write.

I’ve read everything from Charles Bukowski, and he’s not a romance writer as much as someone who inspires me to write in the genre. I think it’s important to read outside of one’s genre to keep growing as a writer.

Who is your favorite romance character? If you could go on a date with that person, what would you do? Details please! *wink*

Ha! I’ll be sneaky and choose one of my own characters. He’s the man from “The Lottery” – the last novella in Spring into Summer. He’s a Dutchman named Theo who’s intelligent, sexy, and über alpha.

As for the date, it’s in the story and it’s something all men love to receive, no exception. I acquired this art many years ago and highly recommend learning it. It makes for a great date and wonderful sex. *wink*

Do you have a special piece of clothing you wear when you write?

I like to be comfortable when I write, so I wear as little as possible. Without air-conditioning in the house, summer is great. I’d write in the nude if I could but my laptop gets pretty heated up.

In the winter, I wear a wool hat to keep all the good ideas in my head.

What is next for you?

I’ve put out two anthologies, and now it’s time to write a full-length novel, so that’s the next big project on my list.  I have several collaborations I’m working on as well.

What were your first impressions of each other?

There was an immediate attraction—like a tiny spark that burst into flames the moment we saw one another.

What are your favorite parts about each other?

We love deeply and don’t fool around for long.  We’re strong people and know what we want.
